My story began on March 2nd, 1994 in Lubbock, Texas, where I was born and raised. I spent most of my time participating in competitive cheer and hip hop at Raider Xtreme as well as cheering at Monterey High School. I have a passion for traveling and the outdoors as my parents took us on many vacations and showed me the beauty in the world that God created. My parents always taught me that it is important to remember where you come from. They taught me from day one that it is important to work hard in anything that you do. To take care of people no matter who they are, what they look like, or where they come from. They taught me that you should always value the little things in life and that you should value time because that is the one thing in life that you can never get back. Whether that be time with family or time with others that you truly love. They showed me through life where true strength comes from, and that’s from within. It’s the little things you do for people that can make all the difference. This could be making a simple phone call or just listening to people about their experiences throughout life. All these little lessons along the way helped shape me into who I am today.
After graduating high school, I took a chance on life and moved out to Utah where my brother lives. I got the chance to see a bit more of the world that I had never experienced. During that time in Utah I met the man that I would eventually marry. It wasn’t a typical love story because my father made sure that before I settled down with someone he not only had to fulfill my expectations, but his as well. Which, by the way, were set pretty high for his little girl. I always kept this in the back of my mind while out there in the world. My parents both instantly fell in love with my husband, Lionel and treated him as their own son. Here we are many years later with two amazing kids and onto our next adventure in life.
After moving around from Utah to Colorado I was diagnosed with Cushing's Disease and Vasovagal Syncope. It was at that time God decided that it was time for us to move back to Lubbock because He knew that my dad's time was short so He made sure that he was able to meet his grandson before he was called back home to Heaven. It would be three months after my son, Grayson was born that we lost my dad and at a moment's notice my life would change, not only because I lost my best friend in life, but because I felt that there was so much more he had left to teach me. I guess you could say that God needed a strong angel there by his side that day. Little did I know at the time there was still one major lesson that he was going to teach me even though he was gone. He taught me that when we are down, and the world feels like it’s against us, that is when we have to be our most vulnerable and strongest. I use this life lesson everyday in everything that I do, not only in my personal life, but when it comes to running my business.
After all these adventures in my life, I finally told my husband that it was time for me to take a chance and do the one thing that I had DREAMED of for NINE years! We took our chance and finally opened up a boutique in February of 2020. We started small running it out of our house with just myself, my husband, support from family and a few good friends. We started to see the growth and knew that it was only a matter of time before we would have to expand into a full blown operation. In August of 2020 we took another huge step into my dream and hired 5 employees. We were working out of a small corner office area in my master bedroom. It was crowded and a little chaotic but we made it work. I remember praying every night with my husband for the Lord to guide us towards a storefront as we were all cramped, running the business out of our home. After weeks of praying, we got a phone call that there was an opening at Discount Storage Storefront's. It was the biggest blessing to see this place and the way God had moved mountains. At the end of August, we signed on the lease and immediately moved in. The road along the way has not been easy but I go back to those lessons that I was taught along the way. It has been an amazing adventure so far for us all and on October 17th, 2020, my dream takes one more giant step and we officially open our doors to the public!
When we officially open, I want people to know that here at ASHBY + CO, we want to inspire others to know that it might be scary to go for your dreams but THEY ARE POSSIBLE! Know that you are beautiful, strong, loved and capable! When you shop with us, we want you to know that you will be taken care of, listened to and leave knowing how beautiful you truly are on the inside and out! We can not wait to help those not only in Lubbock, but wherever they are located to see their true beauty. So if I had to say one thing, it’s to let us help you take a chance on yourself and show you how amazing, gorgeous and loved you truly are. I hope that this story helps those out there who are not sure about taking a chance on themselves to come find us and let us help. I took a chance and it has been the most exciting experience that I will forever be grateful for. My staff and I look forward to seeing you either in person or on our online store. I hope you allow us the opportunity to help you take a chance on beauty.
